Synthesis and Application |
2,4-Dihydroxybenzophenone is used as a UV absorber, and the benzophenones derived from this product, such as 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone (UV-9), 2-hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone (ChemicalbookUV-531), as well as other monohydroxy, dihydroxy, trihydroxy, and tetrahydroxy compounds, are the most widely used absorption type light stabilizers. 2,4-Dihydroxybenzophenone is also used as a light stabilizer for plastics and other materials, effectively protecting organic glass and fabrics from spoilage due to light exposure. It is also used as an intermediate for synthesizing other ultraviolet absorbers. |
